The Late Woodland Rosenstock village site, located in Frederick County, was excavated from 1979 and then again from 1990 to 1992. Many members of MAS participated in all of the field excavations. The site was discovered in the early 20th century and was well know and collected by local residents. The site can be called “the first city of Frederick” because village complexes were inhabited by Native Americans over hundreds of years. The artifacts recovered from the site yielded information that contributed important insights into the connections between sites along the Potomac River and known sites further south. Read more.
